This is an ongoing project to practice my motion graphics skills and reminisce on important lessons I learned in Corporate America, coaching, and in my personal life.
Success Over Time. In the fall of 2023, I had the privilege of coaching middle schools girls volleyball fundamentals. It was a six week program and we accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. There was one young lady in particular that was very enthusiastic about learning how to play volleyball. She watched the volleyball anime Haikyu!!, became completely obsessed with the sport, and was eager to learn. She even knew very advanced plays and moves I didn’t know at her age. Halfway through the season after a game we lost, she realized she wasn’t progressing as fast as she’d like, emulating these characters on TV, and quickly became discouraged. Aha! A #coachingmoment. In all seriousness though, I gave her the trite and true: you get to where you want to go by consistent practice, discipline, and a lot of time. You will probably fail more times than you succeed, but you have to keep going. She wiped her tears off her face and said, “Thanks, Coach” and left to go home. The next day, she was one of the first girls to arrive at practice to work on her serve.
